Let’s learn english

Let's Learn English (LLE) is a 4-week parent accompanied Phonics programme by Curious Thoughts Giving. Classical and exciting local folklore are featured to teach phonics to the children. Parents are equipped with practical teaching tips based on SmallTalk strategies, which are also adopted by Singapore’s Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and Victoria’s Department of Health and Human Services (Australia). These strategies help parents gain the skills and confidence to support English learning at home.

What’s more, parents reported a notable boost in their confidence to support English learning at home. Encouragingly, all indicated they would recommend LLE to other parents looking to build a stronger learning environment for their children.

Previous renditions of Let’s Learn English!

  • Jom Belajar English was a 4-week parent-accompanied phonics programme held twice in 2022, engaging Malay families with children aged 4 to 6. Similar to Let’s Learn English!, the programme aimed to equip parents with foundational phonics and practical strategies to support English learning at home.

Parents learned both Jolly Phonics and SmallTalk strategies—evidence-based approaches endorsed by ECDA Singapore and Australia's Victorian Department of Health.

Similarly, the programme creatively incorporated classic tales from the Malay Annals—Sang Nila Utama, Hang Nadim, Sang Kancil, and Badang—to teach phonics and share engaging teaching techniques.

  • SmallTalk was a 4-week parent-accompanied programme designed for families with special needs children and those from less-privileged backgrounds. Targeted at children aged 4 to 6, it focused on equipping parents with basic phonics and practical strategies to support learning at home.

The programme combined Jolly Phonics with SmallTalk parenting strategies—endorsed by ECDA Singapore and Australia's Victorian Department of Health—to help turn everyday interactions into learning opportunities. Delivered by educators from Curious Thoughts Academy, SmallTalk reached over 30 families in partnership with agencies like Fei Yue EIPIC, Ang Mo Kio FSC, and Singapore Children’s Society.

SmallTalk has since evolved and is now part of our Let's Learn English! programme, where both parents and children learn alongside each other!
